How to Choose the Right Padel Overgrip
Why Overgrips Matter
Your overgrip is the interface between your hand and racket. A worn or wrong overgrip affects control, comfort, and even injury risk. It's the cheapest upgrade that makes the biggest immediate difference to your game.
Tacky vs Dry Overgrips
Tacky overgrips (like Wilson Pro Overgrip) feel sticky and provide excellent grip in dry conditions. Dry overgrips (like Tourna Grip) absorb moisture and actually grip better when wet with sweat. Choose based on how much you sweat.
Thickness
Standard overgrips add about 0.5mm to your grip size. If your grip already feels borderline too large, consider thinner options. If it feels small, a thicker overgrip or double-wrapping can help.
When to Replace
Replace your overgrip every 3-5 playing sessions, or immediately when it feels slick. Playing with a worn overgrip forces you to squeeze harder, which leads to arm fatigue and potentially tennis elbow.
Application Tips
Start from the bottom of the handle, overlapping each wrap by about one-third. Pull slightly as you wrap for a snug fit. Finish with the included tape strip. A well-applied overgrip should feel smooth with no bumps or gaps.
Budget Tip
Buy overgrips in bulk packs of 12 or 30. The per-unit cost drops significantly, and you'll always have fresh grips available.
