Padel Drills You Can Do Alone: Solo Practice Guide

Solo Practice Is Valuable

You don't always have a partner available, but that doesn't mean you can't improve your padel game. Many fundamental skills can be developed through solo drills on court, or even at home.

Wall Rally Drill

Stand 3-4 meters from the back wall and rally with yourself. Hit the ball against the glass and play the rebound. Start with forehand only, then backhand only, then alternate. This develops your wall-reading skills and timing more than any partner drill can.

Serve Practice

The serve is the one shot you can practice completely alone. Set up targets in the service boxes (cones, towels, or just aim for specific areas). Practice 50 serves, tracking your accuracy percentage. Work on consistency before adding spin variation.

Shadow Footwork

Move around the court without a ball, practicing proper footwork patterns. Split step at the net, lateral shuffle to the forehand, crossover steps back to the baseline, set up for an overhead. Repeat for 10-15 minutes. This groove the movement patterns into muscle memory.

Ball Control Against the Wall

Stand close to the back wall and gently volley the ball against it repeatedly, keeping it going as long as possible. This develops soft hands and racket control. Once you can maintain 50+ touches, try it with alternating forehand and backhand.

At-Home Drills

Practice your continental grip squeeze (tennis ball in hand, squeeze and release). Do shadow swings in front of a mirror to check your technique. Balance exercises on one foot build the stability you need for on-court movement.

Mental Practice

Visualize matches. Picture yourself executing specific shots — the bandeja, the lob return, the chiquita. Mental rehearsal activates many of the same neural pathways as physical practice and is used by professional athletes across all sports.
