Padel Lob: The Most Underrated Shot in the Game
March 16, 20261 min read
Why the Lob Matters in Padel
In tennis, the lob is often a defensive last resort. In padel, it's a primary offensive weapon. A well-placed lob can shift the entire dynamic of a point.
The Defensive Lob
When under pressure, a high deep lob buys you time to recover. Aim for 4-5 meters peak height.
The Offensive Lob
A flat, fast lob just over your opponents' reach that lands deep and kicks off the back glass is one of the most effective shots in padel.
Placement Is Everything
The ideal landing zone is the back third of the court, close to the side wall.
When to Lob
Lob when opponents are both at the net, when the sun is in their eyes, or when you need to slow the rally.
Common Mistakes
The biggest error is lobbing too short. If in doubt, err on the side of too deep.
Practice Drill
From the baseline, practice hitting lobs over a partner at the net. Aim for the back corners.
