Padel Vibora Shot: The Advanced Overhead Weapon

April 4, 20262 min read

What Is a Vibora?

The vibora (Spanish for viper) is an aggressive overhead shot hit with heavy sidespin. Unlike the bandeja, which aims to control, the vibora aims to attack. When hit correctly, the ball snakes off the side glass in an unpredictable trajectory that's extremely difficult to return.

When to Use It

Use the vibora when you want to be more aggressive than a bandeja but the ball isn't ideal for a flat smash. It's particularly effective against opponents who handle bandejas well, as the sidespin creates a different challenge.

The Technique

Start like a bandeja with continental grip and sideways stance. The difference is in the wrist action — snap your wrist to create heavy sidespin. The racket brushes across and under the ball rather than just under it. Think of it as drawing a C-shape with the racket head.

Targeting

Aim for the side glass after the bounce. The sidespin makes the ball kick sideways after hitting the glass, often catching opponents off guard. The best viboras are nearly unreturnable because the spin creates such an unexpected rebound angle.

Prerequisites

Master the bandeja first. The vibora builds on the same foundation but adds wrist snap and spin. Attempting the vibora without solid bandeja fundamentals leads to errors and inconsistency.

Common Errors

Trying to hit too hard (it's about spin, not power), incorrect grip (must be continental), and failing to maintain net position after the shot.
