Padel Wall Play: How to Use the Glass to Win Points
The Walls Are Your Friend
New padel players instinctively try to hit every ball before it reaches the wall. In padel, the walls are part of the playing surface.
Understanding Ball Behavior Off Glass
When a ball hits the back glass wall, it rebounds predictably based on speed and angle. A hard-hit ball will come off the glass fast and far. A soft shot will barely bounce off.
The Back Wall Return
This is the most fundamental wall shot. When your opponent hits deep, let the ball bounce on the floor and then off the back glass. Position yourself about 1-2 meters from the wall.
Side Wall Rebounds
The trick is to track where the ball will end up after the rebound, not where it hits the wall.
The Double Wall Shot
Sometimes the ball hits the back wall and then the side wall. Stay calm, watch the ball carefully, and don't commit to your shot until you can read the final trajectory.
Offensive Wall Play
Advanced players use the walls offensively with well-placed lobs and angled shots.
Practice Drill
Stand 2 meters from the back wall. Have a partner feed balls deep. Practice letting the ball bounce off the glass before returning it.
