5 Warm-Up Drills Every Padel Player Should Do Before a Match
Warming up before a padel match is crucial for preventing injuries and performing your best. Here are five essential warm-up drills that will prepare your body and sharpen your reflexes before stepping on the court.
1. Dynamic Stretching (3 Minutes)
Start with arm circles, leg swings, and torso rotations. Focus on the shoulders, wrists, and hips — the joints that take the most stress during padel. Avoid static stretches before play; save those for your cool-down.
2. Wall Rally Drill (5 Minutes)
Stand about 2 meters from the back wall and rally with yourself. This warms up your forehand and backhand while getting your eyes adjusted to the ball speed. Start slow and gradually increase pace.
3. Mini-Court Volleys (3 Minutes)
With your partner, stand at the net and exchange gentle volleys from the service line. This drill activates your reflexes and gets your hands soft for touch shots during the match.
4. Lob and Smash Practice (3 Minutes)
Take turns hitting lobs while your partner practices overhead smashes. This warms up the overhead motion and helps calibrate depth perception for high balls.
5. Side-to-Side Movement Drill (2 Minutes)
Shuffle laterally across the court, touching each glass wall. This activates your lateral movement muscles and mimics the side-to-side action you will use throughout the match.
Put It All Together
A proper warm-up takes just 15-20 minutes but can dramatically improve your performance and reduce injury risk. Make these drills a habit before every session, and you will notice the difference from the very first point.
